We are working to rebuild lives by revival of indigenous arts and crafts making each buy a ‘one of a kind’ purchase and we are giving back in our own little way by supporting causes that are making the world a better place.
I am grateful to the women at Happy Threads for the beautiful crochet details on the scarfs.
Happy Threads is an upliftment project initiated to uplift and improve the lives of skilled, talented, hardworking women that are often not valued as much as they deserve. Recognising the lack of opportunities for women to capitalise on their arts and crafts-related skills, the Dawoodi Bohra community women launched the ‘Happy Threads’ initiative, under a women-focussed, non-profit organisation called ‘Supermoms4u’ in 2016.
Most of the scraps at the studio are sent to Paduka. The Paduka women make them into beads that we make ‘zero waste jewelry’ from. The beads are also used for details on footwear and garments.
Padukas was conceived as a social project of the NGO Shri Nityananda education trust. For the past 10 years, the Ngo has been working with the Warli tribe in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, India. The aim for starting it was to improve the capacity of the local tribal families to earn a livelihood from their Native art, sewing skills, and their innate ability to learn and master a new craft.
